Q Term Paper assignment broken into four (4) sections. Select one (1) criminal justice issue (e.g., prison overcrowding, gang violence, gun violence, substance abuse, drug courts, child abuse, family violence, juvenile delinquency, corruption, law enforcement misconduct, or any other issue of interest to you). Make sure that your topic is very broad, as you will be writing on the same topic throughout the semester. If you are writing a graduate thesis or project, please feel free to use the same topic for the purposes of this assignment. The term paper will be broken down into four (4) sections each worth 150 points as follows: Section IV: Addressing the Issue 1. Identify the following; 1. At least one policy (local, state, or national) that seeks to address the term paper topic. 2. At least one program (local, state, or national) that seeks to address the term paper topic 2. Discuss how you think the policy and program impacts the term paper topic? 3. Does the policy and/or program align with how the term paper topic is defined and measured? Why or why not? 4. Does the policy and/or program align with the needs of one group of stakeholders over another? What are the impacts? 5. Final Reflections Minimum requirements: Each section of the term paper must be double-spaced and be at least 3-5 pages in length (one inch margins on all sides), unless otherwise specified in the actual scenario. A full page consists of text only; headers/footers, titles, name/date, and the like are NOT calculated in the full page requirement. All in text citations and a separate reference page at the end of the paper must use APA style. There are no reference/citations minimums for this assignment. However, you will need to do research outside of the class readings to thoroughly understand the selected topic and answer the questions pertaining to each section of the term paper. Any term paper section that does not meet the minimum requirements will receive a 45 point deduction. All term paper sections must be submitted through Canvas. Each section is worth 150 points for a total of 600 points. Points: 150 points each section (600 points total) Due Date: Section IV (Addressing the Issue) is due on Sunday (3/7) by 11:59pm

While various remedies to gun violence have been proposed, it is fair to say that the problem can only be effectively addressed at the policy level. However, numerous attempts to come up with effective federal-level legislation have been thwarted. It is now clear that the federal representative may not bring a lasting remedy to this issue any time soon.
